Our Full Day Kindergarten Schedule
8:30 - 8:50 Morning Meeting
We sing songs, dance a little, shake hands, say Good Morning to friends, pledge allegiance to our flag, and do calendar and weather activities. At Morning Meeting we also read our Morning Message together. We talk about the day’s events and special happenings.

8:50 - 9:10 Journals
Each child has his or her own journal for each month. They will start the year doing "free writing and drawing," copying and illustrating the Morning Message, and eventually writing his or her own message.
9:10 - 9:40 Reading/Phonics
During this time we do our letters for the week and participate in activities to develop phonological and phonemic awareness
9:40 - 9:55 Snack Time
9:55 - 10:25 Literacy Centers
The children will work in small groups on the computer, book center, listening center, pocket chart center, ABC games center, read / write the room centers, overhead projector center, play dough center, and writing center. I use this time to work in the small center groups and to assess individual needs.
10:25 - 11:10 Math
Children will work in whole groups, small groups or in teams using hands-on math manipulatives to learn our math concepts.
11:10 - 11:40 Outdoor Activity
11:40 - 12:10 Lunch
12:10 - 12:30 Shared Reading
The children participate in reading a predictable book. It may include echo reading, choral reading, or fill in the gap reading. These are ways to encourage early reading enjoyment and success with a high level of teacher support.
12:30 – 1:00 Rest time
We all take a break from our busy morning activities. I play quiet music and pass out books to children to read quietly.
1:00 – 1:30 Developmental Centers
All centers are open after children have worked in literacy centers!
1:30 – 1:50 Focus Poetry
The children will learn one poem per week. They will participate in making predictions, discussing vocabularies, reviewing words, role-playing and doing their poetry journals.
1:50- 2:30 Science
During this time, we will be making simple experiments using and discussing the scientific process.
2:30 – 3:00 Geography/Composer/Master of the Month
During this time, I will read aloud to children and involve them through art or music with emphasis on the country or composer of the month.
3:00 - 4:00 Snack/Outside Time
4:00 – 4:55 Independent Play Centers
The children will work independently at centers for oral language development and socialization skills.
4:55 - 5:00 Clean-up and Students join the 4’s class for quiet activities
